The Hardware Hut sells a super fun item called the cabinet knob and cabinet pull bases or ferrules. These bases are what you use if you want to make your own cabinet hardware. We sell these everyday to hobbyists and businesses for their own designs. Some make cabinet knobs or cabinet pulls out of rocks, minerals, petrified wood, bone, fused glass, or ceramics. The list goes on and on. You can make a cabinet knob or cabinet pull out from pretty much anything, as long as it can glue to our bases.
Information on the Product
We stock the bases in five popular finishes: Antique Brass, Oil Rubbed Bronze, Polished Chrome, Satin Nickel, and Polished Brass. They come pre-drilled to accept a standard #8-32 screw. We do not include screws but do make them available for purchase separately. To size the screw, measure the material thickness of the door or drawer that the cabinet knob or cabinet pull is being affixed to and add a 1/4″. The bases have a 5/8″ projection. They have the perfect size to fit a finger or two behind your custom cabinet knob or cabinet pull. (In case you’ve been wondering what the difference is between a cabinet knob and cabinet pull: a cabinet knob is affixed to the door or drawer with a single post and screw, while a cabinet pull is affixed with two or more posts and screws.)
Pro Tips
We recommend that you use a two-part epoxy for adhering your custom cabinet knobs or cabinet pulls to your new bases. Gorilla makes a simple one in a syringe that is easy to use and dries clear. This is especially helpful if your knob is also clear or transparent. The epoxy sets in five minutes and cures in 24 hours. Epoxies work great because they will bond different types of material, such as steel, glass, ceramic, wood, tile, and most plastics.
