When you are in the market for a cabinet lock, the first thing you’ll need to know is the material thickness the lock will be going on. The most common material thickness is 3\/4″. If this is the case for you, we have the perfect cam lock. It’s available in four finishes and multiple keying options.<\/p>\n

Item\u00a0<\/span>C8053<\/span><\/a>\u00a0is a 1-3\/16″ disc tumbler cylinder cam lock that works on the maximum material thickness of 7\/8″. Included with the lock are two cams. Cams are the silver metal pieces at the back of the lock that turn when the key is turned. You get two cams, but you should only use one and toss out the other one. There is both a straight cam and a formed (bent) cam. The straight cam is for use on a lipped overlay application such as a 3\/8″ inset door. The formed cam is used on flush\/full inset doors or overlay doors. You flip the cam towards you when installing for inset, and away from you for overlay.<\/span><\/p>\n

Also included is a trim washer for the front of the lock. This is for if you accidentally drilled your borehole a little big or if during the drilling you chewed up the wood a little and want to cover it up. To keep the lock from spinning in the borehole, you’ll want to install the included spur washer. The washer has two little spikes on the back that dig into the wood to keep it tight.<\/p>\n

Something that has come up before is when inserting the cylinder into the housing, the front of the cylinder and the housing need to be flush. There is a little cutout on the housing that lines up with a notch on the cylinder. If it isn’t flush, pull the cylinder out and turn it 90 degrees. If it still isn’t flush, try it one more time. You should then be golden. Below are two images showing it correctly and incorrectly.<\/p>\n

Let’s Talk about Keying<\/h2>\n

We carry these locks three ways: all\u00a0<\/span>keyed alike,<\/span><\/a>\u00a0all\u00a0<\/span>keyed different<\/span><\/a>, or all\u00a0<\/span>keyed different and under a master key<\/span><\/a>. If you are just buying one lock, then either select the keyed alike or keyed different. It makes no difference. If you need more than one lock, you’ll need to decide how you want them. The keyed alike option is okay for one key to open all locks. Keyed different is for if you want different keys to open different locks. Choose keyed different and master keyed if you want them all different and want to have the option for a master key.<\/span><\/p>\n

Cabinet Lock Finishes<\/h2>\n

The C8053 comes in four finishes:\u00a0<\/span>Nickel<\/span><\/a>,\u00a0<\/span>Bright Brass<\/span><\/a>,\u00a0<\/span>Antique Brass<\/span><\/a>, and\u00a0<\/span>Matte Black<\/span><\/a>. Our most popular model is Nickel followed by Antique Brass.<\/span><\/p>\n

Optional Cam<\/h2>\n

We also have an optional cam: the\u00a0<\/span>C7014<\/span><\/a>. It is a formed or bent cam identical to the one that comes with the lock, except this one is longer. The benefit to the longer cam is the capability to drill a borehole for installation of the lock further from the door’s edge. Instead of 7\/8″ from the center to the edge or less, you could do 1-3\/8″ or less.<\/span><\/p>\n
