From the manufacturer: No it cannot be mounted vertically. The grab bar only locks in one position so if it was vertical it would not lock in the disengaged position.
Can this 16" product be mounted to swing to the side instead of up and down? Extend-A-Hand 16" (406mm) Folding Grab Bar (Stainless Steel)
