The round posts you are referring to on the Hickory Hardware Conquest 3" c.c. Cabinet Pull would be installed into the cabinet/drawer; a slightly larger hole would need to be drilled out about 1/4" deep on the outer side of the cabinet/drawer and those little lugs would be placed into cabinet/drawer, not exposed or adding to the projection of the pull. The overall projection of the pull is 7/8" when installed correctly.
