First, there is no test or specs related to the load capacity of 1-5/16” aluminum rod. This is a result from the variables related to the installation of the closet rod. One example, the many options in just the length alone. As a result, designing a uniform test of load capacity isn’t a simple task.
However, engineers and contractors recommend using a center support for lengths 48” and above. A shelf support bracket will work the same too. If the rod is used for what it's made for, hanging clothes/coats/curtains, you shouldn't have any trouble.
