This lock doesn't function that way. It has an emergency release on the exterior portion, but not a way to lock it from the outside.
The Deltana Privack pocket door lock can be operated on each side if you order 2 sets and put the thumbturn sides together. But it will not work on a predilled door like the Johnson one does.
You could technically use the Taymor Privacy Pocket door lock that way by using a coin to operate the lock from the outside, but that's also not ideal.
Emtek makes a mortise pocket door lock that has the option for a keyed function. It would require locking with a key from the exterior and has a thumb turn on the interior trim. I think this would be the best solution for your application.
