Can the hinge plate be mounted inside the door frame, allowing the door to be inset? (Not planning to lift on/off)

While it's possible to install the Abbey Trading Gatemate with heavy duty strap hinges in a different orientation, you would encounter issues. A large gap would appear on the pin side, and the door would need to be an outswing to avoid binding. Gatemate hardware is best used as instructed.
