On the back of the hinge you will see notches like the one circled in red in the first picture. On the plate there are nibs see the area circled in red on the second picture. Because I am weird, I think of them as a horse and bridle, the mouth (first picture) and the bridle being the nibs in the second picture. They go together and then press down until you hear a click (third picture). The final picture is what they should look like combined. There is a lever in the front noted by the arrow when pressed down and addition force will pull the hinge and plate apart.
