Can I cut off the locking mechanism and use this as a flap hinge for a drop front (murphy) desk?

You can do whatever you want with the Selby Butler Tray Hinge after purchase. The locking plate is pretty thick, so it will take some effort to cut it off. Naturally, the butler tray hinges are not returnable after such alterations.
