Learn About the B571 Indicator Deadbolt

Schlage offers an interesting deadbolt, for use in public restrooms, dressing rooms, or your favorite boutique: the B571 Indicator or Occupancy Deadbolt. This bolt meets ANSI A156.5 Grade 2.

A fully functional secure deadbolt, this product doesn’t use a traditional key to operate. Instead, it has either a green “VACANT” display or a red “IN USE” display. This lets everyone know that the room is either occupied or ready for use. Not only is this perfect for a dressing room, it works great for any situation where you need privacy in a public space, such as a restroom, nursing room, exam room, or napping room.

To operate, enter the room, close the door, and turn the thumbturn to lock. From the inside, simply turn the thumbturn again to unlock the door. From the outside, there is a spot to insert an emergency key to enter. This provides security in case the occupant is incapacitated. Turn the key 90 degrees to retract the bolt.

Each lock comes with one emergency key. You can purchase additional keys in case of loss.

This lock renders eight finishes: Polished Brass, Satin Brass, Aged Bronze, Oil Rubbed Bronze, Satin Bronze, Polished Chrome, Satin Chrome, and Satin Nickel.

While the deadbolt was designed for use on a 1-1/2″ diameter hole, it will also work on a standard 2-1/8″ bore hole. Schlage sends an adjustable latchbolt for either 2-3/8″ or 2-3/4″ backset, as well as three faceplate options: square corner, radius corner, and drive in. You can install this on a door between 1-3/8″ and 1-7/8″ thick.
