Kitchen Renovation with Brass Hardware

We’ve seen brass hardware make a serious comeback in recent years. Brass was our most popular cabinet handle finish of 2019, and it looks like this trend is here to stay for the long haul. When some of us think brass, we think back to the shiny, cheap-looking finishes of the 80’s, but today’s brass has a much warmer and inviting hue that works in a variety of different spaces and design styles from modern to traditional. Haley Hawkins of @thehawkins.onthehill tells us why she chose gold/brass hardware for her highly anticipated kitchen remodel.

Our Kitchen Renovation

We recently completed a kitchen renovation in our new home and couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. Initially the kitchen was very dark, with oak cabinets and black handles. It felt a little enclosed. We dreamed of a brighter, more open space, so we decided to make a change. It’s shocking how much a new cabinet color and hardware transformed our kitchen.

Our cabinets were originally an oak wood color with black knobs (seen in the Before picture below). At first, when brainstorming how to add more light to the room, we wanted to paint the cabinets, but keep the black handles since they matched the black granite in the kitchen. Then, while getting a new sink installed, we discovered we needed to replace the granite due to poor installation which could cause leaks… This was unexpected, but a blessing in disguise because we knew this meant we could choose exactly what we wanted since we’d be starting from scratch.

Our ideal kitchen was always white quartz counter tops, white cabinets, and gold accents. We thought choosing the gold accents would bring a ton of light back into our kitchen, and also be bold and unique. We chose longer pulls on our taller cabinets and drawers to make more of a statement since we really wanted the gold hardware to be the focal point in the kitchen. The square design of Lewis Dolin’s Square Bar Series added a sleek and stylish flare to the cabinets. We chose the satin brass finish rather than polished to match our new lights and faucet. The gold hues in our hardware and fixtures matched perfectly!

We’re so glad we took the leap and went with the gold. Our kitchen now feels light and bright. Going with the white and gold has really opened up the room and made our kitchen feel so much bigger. The gold really adds class and elegance, and is exactly what we had envisioned.
