Types of Cabinet Door Latches

Different cabinet latches work for different cabinet styles, and specific conditions call for specific latches. For instance, a touch cabinet door catch may not be the right choice for a family with small children, as this type of latch opens easily. In this scenario, a child-safe cabinet door latch would be the better choice. Popular types of latches include:

  • Ball Tension and Bullet Catches are small cabinet door latches installed at the top of the cabinet door. Ball tension and bullet catches are often used for doors with dummy door knobs.
  • Child Safety Latches automatically lock when cabinets or drawers close, preventing children from accessing contents.
  • Icebox Catches are mounted on the exterior of a door and open using twist levers or knobs.
  • Cupboard Turn Latches  are mounted on the exterior of a cupboard door and open using a twist mechanism.
  • Elbow Catches are often used as latches for cabinets with double doors. The elbow catch secures one door in position when the two door locks together
  • Flex-Grip and Roller Catches use an interlocking channel or catch to hold the roller in place.
  • Touch Cabinet Latches use magnets to keep doors closed. Pressing on the door releases and secures the latch.

Soft Close and Cabinet Door Bumpers

Usually made from rubber or plastics, cabinet door bumpers protect your cabinet doors from damage and reduce impacts if doors close with too much force. We carry a variety of excellent cabinet door bumpers:
  • Soft-Close Bumpers include small hydraulic cylinders that dampen the closing action of cabinet doors for a soft-quiet closing action.
  • Clear Door Bumpers are small round bumpers made of plastic or rubber with an adhesive backing. Clear bumpers can also protect glass cabinet doors.
  • Slide-Out Bumpers protect the interior cabinet door from damage caused by roll-out trays and shelves.
